BIO
Since elementary school, Baltimore native Julz P has been passionate about music. As a child, he would remix the “Poke Raps” that would come on at the end of each episode of the popular cartoon Pokeman. Julz added his personal spin, drawing the attention of his fellow musically-inclined peers who encouraged Julz to keep at it and to keep churning out his magic. Next up was rewriting the hottest songs he heard while listening to the local urban radio station 92Q.
With practice, Julz gained more confidence and soon began developing his own style. He joined the rap and free style battling culture and competed amongst his classmates to see who wrote the best verses. If Julz ever came up short, he never took losses to heart but instead attacked each defeat as a challenge to do better. He always got back on the saddle and came back with new passion and energy and would eventually destroy his opponents with a new verse.
In 2007, at Morgan State University he met Chauncey “Beat Ryda” Abrams and from there, Julz’s future in music became definite!
He recorded numerous songs in Beat Ryda’s parents’ basement and eventually compiled two mixtapes: “A Scorpio Affair” (2012) and “A.S.A.2” (2013), and sometime, in between, signed to an independent label, Zimmerman Music Group in 2012.
Julz is a feature writer on other artists’ projects. He took to his pen to add his flavor to projects by Jazz Loren and Mahogany Fame. In 2015, Julz dropped his first major album “A.R.T Through Music.” He then landed a co-host radio gig on “The Literary Corner” podcast with executive producer Laura “The Soul Writer” Poindexter for a season.
He went on to perform only at a couple of events before having disagreements with his label and ended up parting from Zimmerman Music Group. Through the discord with his former label, Julz continued to work side by side with Beat Ryda on new music as his passion never faded.
Julz counts Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill and Outkast as his influences; and consequently, the sound, flow and music of each of theses artists contribute to his own sound.
On Valentines Day 2018, Julz dropped “Ms. Valentine” which samples the infamous Tyrese Gibson’s Instagram rant and then officially dropped a banger “Toxic” on August 21, 2018.
Julz is currently working on a new project for 2020 while he currently has released the singles “Resolution” and “Shake” to keep the audience’s attention.
